Aces For Ana Story

As we gear up for the second annual Aces for Ana tennis tournament, I want to share a story—not just any story, but one of friendship, resilience, and the kind of fun that turns life’s challenges into moments of triumph. This story starts with two CPAs, Ana Klein and myself, whose bond transcended spreadsheets to find a shared love in the world of tennis—a sport we approached with as much enthusiasm (and perhaps more laughter) than our day jobs.

Ana and I began our tennis journey with a pact: to play for the joy of it, embracing every mis-hit and double fault as part of our adventure. It wasn’t long before our "strictly for fun" matches became I actually think we might win this one.  We played numerous tournaments, even winning Player of the Year as 3.0 tennis players.   It was during one such tournament in Napa, amidst the excitement and camaraderie of the game, that Ana confided in me about a challenge far greater than any match we had faced.

Diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer, Ana showed the world what true bravery looked like. She tackled chemotherapy with a warrior’s heart and faced surgery with unwavering determination, all while dreaming of our next game. Her spirit unbroken, Ana joined us at nationals, playing with such passion and grit that it reminded everyone what it truly means to live and love every moment.

Last year, Ana stood with us, racket in hand, at the inaugural Aces for Ana tournament. It was more than a competition; it was a declaration of our collective resolve to support those fighting cancer, inspired by Ana’s own journey and her indomitable spirit.

This year, we play again—in memory of Ana, who passed away in October after a valiant fight, leaving behind a legacy of courage and a message that resonated deeply: to support and uplift each other, no matter the battle. Aces for Ana is our way of honoring that legacy. It's about rallying together, not just for the love of tennis but to bring to life Ana’s wish to make a difference for cancer warriors everywhere.

Our aim? To smash last year’s incredible $23,000 fundraising milestone out of the park and to infuse every match, every point, with the joy and laughter that Ana brought to the courts. This tournament is a testament to the power of friendship, the healing nature of laughter, and the strength we find in community.

So, whether you’re here to serve aces or simply to enjoy the camaraderie, know that your presence turns the tide in this battle against cancer. Together, we’re not just playing a tournament; we’re honoring a friend, celebrating life, and making a tangible difference in the fight against cancer.

Let’s make this year’s Aces for Ana an unforgettable mix of fierce competition, heartfelt memories, and, most importantly, fun—the way Ana would have wanted.

Thank you for helping remembering Ana and her mission to help other "warriors" fighting cancer.
